Low-quality rip-off

This edition seems to be a messily reformatted and cheaply-produced copy of the 1896 translation by T.B. Saunders which is freely available online (with much neater formatting) as "The Art of Controversy", but with the translator's preface removed.
The book contained no address or other information about the publisher, except for a statement "Printed in San Bernardino, CA" and dated 2 days before I received it (!)
The text seems to reproduce the 1896 translation, so you can in principle read Schopenhauer's sarcastic thoughts, but I found the crappy formatting to be enough of a distraction that I couldn't stand more than a couple of pages, and flicking through was annoying enough. Could this be Wittgenstein's revenge?

Only useful if you've already started on that path.

I bought this for a Work Experience course I was taking at the time. There are useful pieces of information scattered throughout the book, but then you have a lot of information which comes off as common sense (take that with a grain of salt). My biggest disappointment (with the book and the course) is that the focus was primarily on keeping a job rather than finding one. Part of my course requirement was to have a job, and I since I didn't, the alternative was to attend volunteer work. Completing the course (and thus finishing the text) didn't really fix the problem of transitioning into new employment (something which didn't happen until about six months later).

Final verdict: If you want to brush up on ways to improve yourself as an employee, and you can find this cheaply, then knock yourself out. If that doesn't apply to you, look elsewhere.

"I like several things about the book. First, it provides a pretty balanced approach between theory and practical issues. Each chapter typically includes theoretical/scholarly approaches to Org Comm, and also includes practical information, as examples or case studies. Second, the book is written in a very concise manner. Each chapter of the Miller book can be broken up into relatively short, but information heavy reading segments. So our busy students don't have to read extra-long chapters to get much foundational information. Finally, the book effectively covers most of the critical Org Comm issues, both foundational issues and more contemporary issues."

About the Author
Dr. Katherine Miller is a leading scholar on communication in healthcare organizations. She holds bachelors and masters degrees in communication from Michigan State University, and a doctorate from the Annenberg School of Communication at the University of Southern California. She served on the faculties of the University of Kansas, Arizona State University, and Michigan State University, and has been a professor in Texas A&M University's Department of Communication since 1998. Dr. Miller is the author of three books and more than 50 journal articles and book chapters.

Poorly written book

This book was extremely boring! It is written like a research paper and not like a text book. The author quotes one researcher after another and does very little original writing herself. I am almost done with my class and I haven't learned anything from this book, even though I have read the entire book. It is very liberal leaning, politically speaking; and gives far too much weight to the Feminist point of view.
It is not a good book to use for any class, but particularly not for a communications class. I would not recommend it to anyone. I will recommend to my school that they no longer use this book for the class. I attend a Catholic University and there are several points in the book which conflict with Catholic teaching.
To quote one of my classmates "This book says very little with a lot of words."

I knew the book was used, but it had heavily marked up and had lots of writing in a foreign language. The book should have been trashed instead of resold.
