Essential Technique for Strings (Book 3)

A okay lesson book. The first part teaches you how to play in third and second position, harmonic shifting, and first/third position shifting. Like the first two volumes in the ‘Essential’ series, there are play-along tracks included. The exception here is that the music service comes to an abrupt end after lesson 76 with no explanation (there are about 236 lessons in the book). Maybe the budget ran out? That's too bad, it‘s more interesting and fun learning the lessons playing along and hearing how it’s supposed to sound.

If you want to buy a violin method for learn violin, this is the indicated. The book has a very friendly and clear explanations about the music concepts. The diagrams are very useful, easy to understand and reinforce every time your knowledge. In the other side the support material as mp3, videos, software for music notation and practices are all very very useful. I was surprised with this method. I compared this method with the traditional Suzuki books and honestly, I found the Essential Elements very superior than Suzuki. I recommend it 100%. Obviously this method required that you be constant.

About the Author
Oliver Kayser: Oliver Kayser received his PhD at the Free University Berlin in 1997 following his fellowship at the University of Gainesville, Florida, whereupon he entered the pharmaceutical biotechnology industry. He is currently a lecturer at the Department of Pharmaceutics, Biopharmacy and Biotechnology at the FU Berlin, working on new biotech drugs from natural sources and on the development of drug delivery carriers based on nanosuspension and solid lipid nanoparticle enterprise technologies.


Prof. Dr. Heribert Warzecha
Studied Pharmazie at the Johannes Gutenberg-Universitat, Mainz. After completing his Ph.D. in 1998, he worked first as a postdoctoral fellow at Cornell, USA, and become associate Professor in wurzburg in 2001. Since 2007 he is full Professor at the technical university of Darmstadt and became dean of the Institute of plant science in 2009.

This text is really more of a collection of review articles authored by different persons collected together in chapters and edited by the authors. I think it's good for what it is and someone with more background may rate it better than I did, but purchasers should know that this really isn't an introductory text. I was hoping for an "updated to 2013" introductory text that would include more basic explanations of techniques like PCR and explanations of the newer jargon at a level for someone with a M.S. in chemistry who took a biochemistry course in school 20 years ago and only remembers the basic DNA to RNA to protein pathway, cell organelles, basic structure of a virus etc. I think I'll have to find a different text of that type before I read this one. I'd be grateful for any suggestions.

Great Read

I highly enjoyed this book. Sadat in many ways was a man of tremendous wisdom and political savvy. His memoirs span his birth, the free officer movement, Nasser's reign, and Sadat's presidency. Curiously, the book ends right before the Camp David Accords as he talks about the hopes he has in working with Carter. Sadat has many fascinating insights into Egyptian politics and the Middle East. I highly recommend this book.

The add stated, " Brand new first printing hb with dj per image above, no marks or signs of use, just a hint of shelf wear" however, when I opened the book it had the name "brad" written on the inside and the letter "B" written on the inside of the dust jacket. As for "just a hint of shelf wear", I would say that this has a little more than just a hint, but I must be honest and say that I am a bit critical of the dust jacket because I am buying this for collector purposes. I am just planning on buying a brand new book and donating this one to my local library.

A Favorite Book of Mine

A wonderful autobiography of a kind and humble man. I remember his simple delight in eating a roasted onion from his grandmothers fire pit. I read this book in 1978 and thanks to Amazon, I can buy another copy to give to a friend 35 years later.

Well worth the wait

This book was delayed time and again, but it is well worth the wait. This is by far one of the best Black Library releases. Malleus takes place nearly 100 years after the first book Xenos. The novel is plotted and executed in the fashion of Xenos and works just as well. The plot of Malleus deals more with the machinations of rival inquisitors and shows the reader why the inquisition is so feared. Malleus is especially interesting to those familiar with his other books. Abnetts first book First and Only is referenced several times (inquisitor Heldane is a villain of sorts in First. the Mechanicus ship Mons Olympus is too.)The book is also noticably longer than other Black Library releases, but it still feels rushed, especially the final battle which is ridiculously short and dissapointing, these two factors alone drop the rating. And judging by the titles of the first two books the next and final book will be titled HERETICUS.

Very Good Book!

Abnett has written an excellent follow up to his first book "Xenos". The plot of this novel is very well woven together and surprisingly intricate but as a previous reviewer points out it does feel rather rushed especially at the end. I've read this is because of the restrictions by the Black Library on story length but I can't confirm this. I liked this book better then "Xenos" because it gives a glimpse into the inner life of the Inquisition and all its many problems. I only gave it 4 stars because the story line is rushed. It sets up nicely for the 3rd book. Bring it on Mr Abnett!

Not as good as Xenos

Malleus is the second book of the Eisenhorn Trilogy. Malleus isn't as good of a story as Xenos but still a very good read. If you have not read Xenos then definitely read that book first. Also if you are not already a fan of Warhammer 40,000 be prepared to slug through the first 50-100 pages as the book throws a lot of names and events at you that could be tough to deal with if you are not already familiar with the 40K universe. Overall a good, well written sci-fi yarn.

Great book for surgery shelf exam

This book is a useful and thorough review, excellent if you want to not only pass the surgery shelf exam (Pestana is good for that) but excel higher. It provides cases in a question-answer format. For example, you'll be given a detailed patient case about abdominal pain and asked for a differential. In a paragraph, it'll walk through the differential. Then it'll ask about the best diagnostic tests, and walk through the answer. Etc. etc. It also provides case variations that helps delineate slight differences in the presentation or lab values that would lead to a different approach. Both detailed medical and surgical approaches are provided.

Topics covered include pre-op and post-op care, thoracic/cardiothoracic disorders, GI disorders, vascular disorders, endocrine, breast, soft tissue, trauma/burns/sepsis, and congenital disorders. I took off a point because it is missing orthopedic surgery, ENT, and neurosurgery topics, which are addressed on the shelf. There are also a handful of grammatical errors ("and" instead of "an") that don't detract too much from the book.

Overall, this is a solid resource for the surgery shelf exam that provides appropriate detail and is easily set up for interactive quizzing by yourself or in a group.

A good combination with NMS Surgery

A good combination with NMS Surgery for the surgery rotation. If you only have time for one I would go with NMS Surgery first. I think both of these are better than surgical recall.
Also this book includes a code for access to the material online through an app called inkling. The format of this is even better than the book and you can access it from your phone, ipad etc. It was easy to scroll through a section during downtime between surgeries.
If you are debating about getting it, I would recommend to get it, use the codes and then sell the book to someone else. I think you can get a free sample chapter from inkling to try first.

It is very poor formatted. Switches from colored to black and white

This is for kindle version. It is very poor formatted. Switches from colored to black and white. The tables are blacked out. I would recommend the printed book for now till they fix the issue.
