a must have

It is no longer best practice to just know drug names and dosages so this is a book that needs to be a standard reference for every clinic that provides care to women. It should be readily available to all faculty & students who focus on women's and maternity services. Consumers will find it useful too but due to its size donating a copy to your local library or women's club may be the best investment. Congratulations to the Editors and authors!

This is an excellent resource for pharm geared towards women's health. Gives lots of info related to meds during pregnancy. A valuable resource for all women's health providers and great review for all students of women's health, midwifery, and family nursing.
Not necessarily enough info about the rest of the population, but when you're looking for the missing piece relating to women and pregnancy, it definitely fills in the gaps.

Aircraft carrier Hiryū
As mentioned in the previous chapter, Hiryū was the second aircraft carrier included in “The Second Naval Armaments Supplement Program” of 1934. Originally both carriers were supposed to be sister vessels, but the number of design modifications introduced during the construction of Sōryū resulted in many differences between the two. According to the original plans Hiryū was to be completed a year after Sōryū, but her construction (similarly to her predecessor) suffered delays caused by two key factors. The first one was the implementation of the lessons learned during the reconstruction of Kaga, which was going on simultaneously with Hiryū’s construction. Then there was new data available from the early service days of Sōryū, which exposed some of the design’s drawbacks and weaknesses. The number of issues popping up “along the way” was further increased by the Fourth Fleet Incident and by Japan’s withdrawal from the previously signed naval treaties. Considering all those issues, it is not hard to imagine the inevitable impact they had on Hiryū’s original design and construction schedule. The greatest source of delays was undoubtedly the aftermath of the Fourth Fleet Incident, which forced the Navy Aviation Bureau to introduce changes in the design of the second carrier. After the new requirements had been implemented, Hiryū’s final design (known as the “Basic Project G-10”) finally emerged.

4 stars for the information and the photos, but there are some annoyances and irritations.

A very good book on these two ships. Chapter I on Initial Concept and Design Changes contains information I had never read before. There is a separate chapter on the design of the Hiryu describing the changes to the design and construction as a result of the Fourth Fleet Incident of July 1935. The book is a translation from the original Polish and there are several annoyances. There are quite a few English misspellings and grammatical oddities. For example, Rangun is the capital of Birma. In a couple of sentences it appears that the Polish word for "hull" got translated as "fuselage." Another annoyance is that a couple of photo or drawing captions don't really match the photos. For example, on page 17, the label for the drawing reads "Cross section ... showing the thickness of armor plating." There is no text in the drawing -- the deck levels are not called out and no armor thicknesses are indicated. These things are a bit irritating but the information in the book is still excellent.

Highly Recommended.

Excellent book about this pair of IJN aircraft carriers. Well written, good selection of photos. Development and operational histories are covered. It includes color depictions of Japanese aircraft and their USN opponents that are very well done. Would have liked to see Hiryu and Soryu depicted in color as well, particularly some of the flight deck schemes, but that's a minor quibble. Would recommend, my purchase of this volume led to my buying another of his books on the IJN carrier KAGA.

Not as good as his book on the Kaga but well written from there nicely translated with some goofs. Well researched and extremely informative. Would be nice to see more books of this kind on the other ships of Pearl Harbor such as Akagi, Shokaku and Zuikaku as well as the Mogami heavy cruisers.

About the Author

Mary Jo Hatch (PhD Stanford, 1985) is the C. Coleman McGehee Eminent Scholars Research Professor of Banking and Commerce, Emerita, at the McIntire School of Commerce, University of Virginia. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Copenhagen Business School, Visiting Professor Gothenburg University, and an International Research Fellow of the Centre for Corporate Reputation, Oxford University. Her research has been published in Harvard Business Review, California Management Review, Academy of Management Review, European Journal of Marketing, Human Relations, Journal of Management Inquiry, Strategic Organization, Administrative Science Quartely, and Organization. She co-authored The Three Faces of Leadership (Blackwell) with M. Kostera and A. Kozminski. She received the 2011 Distinguished Educator Award from the Academy of Management's Organization and Management Theory (OMT) Division.
Ann L. Cunliffe is currently Professor of Organization Studies at the University of Leeds in the UK. She has held positions at the University of New Mexico, California State University and the University of New Hampshire. She obtained her Master of Philosophy degree and Ph.D. from Lancaster University Management School. Recent publications in the field of leadership, sensemaking, reflexivity, and qualitative research methods are found in Human Relations, Organizational Research Methods and Management Learning. She was awarded the 2002 'Breaking the Frame Award' from the Journal ofManagement Inquiry for the article that best exemplifies a challenge to existing thought. Ann is currently co Editor-in-Chief of Management Learning, Consulting Editor for the International Journal of Qualitative Research in Organizations and Management, and a member of eight international journal Editorial Boards.

Dense read but organized well

This is a really, really dense read. It takes a lot of concentration and thought to read through the chapters, but I think it's organized well, provides great information and is broken into great chapters with key terms.

Clear explanations of organization theory

This was required reading in a graduate level course in strategic communication. I had absolutely no knowledge of organization theory before I took the course, but I found this book easy to understand. It gives a basic overview of different theories of how organizations are structured. As an introduction to organization theory, this book is recommended.

A great book, but for whom this specific studying Organizational Theory, its didactic method is very interesting because it incorporates three perspectives, the modern , the symbolic and postmodern. I had read the second edition of this book and I think there was a great evolution for the third edition.

Nice first effort, great NPCs, but some odd logic in the game play. Recommended.

Got into this module because it was the RPG Superstar winner, which means it will contain all the monsters from the finalists as well. Because this is a first time module for the writer, Victoria Jaczko, I didn't set the bar high and in that sense was fairly impressed. There is an attempt at a focus on a sandbox style chapter where the PCs interact with out-of-the-compound ranchers, trying to convince them to come in to the fortified town after a devil augmented Orc attack. Liked the concept, but the idea really broke the logic of the region of Last Wall where the story takes places. With a constant threat of Orc attacks, much less just the kind of powerful critters attracted to the carnage of the frontier, you would think any steaders would be fairly hearty stock. Alas, these distant homes were all small groups, often with children, who had a couple levels as commoners or experts, which means they should have been killed off long ago. Most of the homesteads describe would have met their ends with an encounter with a couple of wild boars. Some mercenary hires, or stronger than usual frontiersmen and women, would have been more believable. I'm sure the author intended to balance against the modules level, 3rd, but it really didn't make sense these NPCs could run a farm on their own in hostile territory. So what if they had been more powerful than the PCs? This part of the game was about convincing these hearty folk to come in - that the new threat was outside their scope.

The module also had an awful lot of gift giving of magical items built in. The items so passed would equate to a large chunk of earnings of those giving them away. In this practice the module had a Video Game feeling to it: save the acolyte, he gives you a magic item he probably could not have afforded in the first place and would likely not part with perceiving an imminent invasion of his town.

The module excels at character study, and gives a lot more development to Role Play and Roll Play than many stand alone modules do, and this is the reason to pick up the Daughter's of Fury. You get more of an understanding of the people in this little town, and great drives to make the PCs attach to the NPCs. The module also steps into a vastly underdeveloped area of the Golarion Inner Sea Region, which is nice, but it does not dwell on locale to the point where you cannot fit it into a home grown world (or any other published world).

Plus there's some really neat new monsters!!!!!!

Raw, honest storytelling! An autobiographical masterpiece!

Before I read "Pimp, Iceberg Slim's reputation was known to me through other celebrities such as Dave Chappelle and Ice T. Therefore, I didn't intend to review the book through my disdain for pimping and the way women are treated. With that said, this is one of the best books that I've read in years. I must admit that I am partial to autobiographies, but this book was superbly written. The characters were well constructed; the imagery and metaphors used to describe Slim's interaction with the characters and environments were brilliant. I enjoyed the colorful language, and was anxious to compare my interpretations of words with the actual meanings in the glossary. "Pimp" is a great example of raw, honest storytelling. As I enjoyed this novel, I felt like I was listening to the story flow from his lips.

Slim claimed to have an I.Q. of 175. I don't doubt it at all. Like Denzel's character so eloquently stated in movie "Malcolm X", "Indian Archie might've been a mathematical genius. We were all victims of the American social order. Until that time, there were three things I was always afraid of: a job, a bust and jail."

"Pimp" is a great piece of American literature.

Raw & Mesmerizing

It had been literally months since I last read a full book and "Pimp" has rekindled my passion for prose. The content of the story is deeply disturbing yet delivered with a linguistic swagger that keeps the reader enthralled and oftentimes in awe. It is a glimpse into the psyche of not only a mid-century American pimp, but the identity of urban African Americans through the lens of "the street". The detailed journey, which is recalled from the depression through the late 1950's gives the reader a startling insight into the thought process of a young adult yearning to realize underworld ambitions. The lengths the author goes to in order to grasp this dream and the depths to which he sinks are sometimes astonishing but more frequently sickening. He is acutely aware of the immorality of his profession yet vehemently pursues it with icy selfish indifference. This is not simply a stylistically groundbreaking book about some pimp. It is a commentary on the state and the plight of the African American struggling to find a place in the burgeoning post-war era of American history.

Icebergs shocking recount of his life as a pimp and addict allowed me to see the ugly dirty struggles of life in the underworld of. crime, hustling,,the sex trade and exploitation of women, and willing, consensual voluntarily choosing to become a slave in an effort to survive , belong and feel loved ,and valued as a successful whore/ pimp/ thief/ con... I walked the seedy, dangerous streets of crime in the inner_cities and d experienced serving a prison sentence in a filthy dangerous prison safely in the comfort of my home because Iceberg had the audacity and skill to transport me there. This is an enlarged thriller told excellently that captivates the reader to desire to keep turning the pages desiring to finish the transporting story in one sitting. Loved it!
