About the Author
"Serope Kalpakjian" taught and conducted research at the Illinois Institute of Technology for 38 years prior to his retirement in 2001 as professor emeritus of mechanical and materials engineering. After graduating from Robert College (high honors), Harvard University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he joined Cincinnati Milacron, where he was a research supervisor in advanced metal-forming processes. He is the author of numerous technical papers and several articles in handbooks and encyclopedias and has edited various conference proceedings. In addition, Professor Kalpakjian has served on the editorial bards of several journals and the Encyclopedia Americana and is the coauthor of "Lubricants and Lubrication in Metalworking Operations." Both first editions of his textbooks, "Manufacturing Processes for Engineering Materials and Manufacturing Engineering and Technology," have received the M. Eugene Merchant Manufacturing Textbook Award. He is a Life Fellow of the ASME, Fellow of the SME, Fellow and Life Member of ASM International, emeritus member of CIRP (International Institution for Production Engineering Research), and a founding member and past president of NAMRI/SME.

Among the awards Professor Kalpakjian has received are the Forging Industry Educational and Research Foundation Best Paper Award (1966), an Excellence in Teaching Award from IIT (1970), the Centennial Medallion from the ASME (1980), the International Education Award from the SME (1989), a Person of the Millennium Award from IIT (1999), and the Albert Easton White Distinguished Teacher Award from ASM International (2000). SME named the Outstanding Young Manufacturing Engineer Award afterProfessor Kalpakjian for the year 2002.

"Steven R. Schmid" is an associate professor with the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, University of Notre Dame, where he teaches and performs research in the general areas of manufacturing, machine design, and tribology. As the director of the Manufacturing Tribology Laboratory at the university, he oversees industry- and government-funded research on a variety of manufacturing topics, including tribological issues in rolling, forging and sheet-metal forming, polymer processing, medical-device design and manufacture, and nanomechanics.

He received the B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology (with honors) and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees, both in mechanical engineering, from Northwestern University. He has received numerous awards, including the John T Parsons Award from the SME (2000), the Newkirk Award from the ASME (2000), and the Kaneb Center Teaching Award (2000). He is the recipient of a National Science Foundation CAREERS Award (1996) and an ALCOA Foundation Award (1994). Dr. Schmid is the author of over 50 technical papers; has edited three conference proceedings; has coauthored two books, "Fundamentals o f Machine Elements and Manufacturing Engineering and Tecbnology;" and has contributed two chapters to the "CRC Handbook of Modern Tribology." He serves on the Tribology Division Executive Committee of the ASME, is an associate editor of the "Journal o f Manufacturing Science and Engineering," and is a registered professional engineer and certified manufacturing engineer.

Oversimplified

The emphasis of this book seems to be more on the basic mechanics of the different processes it describes. That's fine, and important to understand manufacturing, but...
BUT, he gives very little attention to how the material being processed responds to the processing. Without a better understanding of the microstructural effects -- and ensuing DEfects -- it may be too hard to troubleshoot the processes described in this book.
My professor was flipping through the early chapters of this book (where the materials issues are presented) and declared them "cheesy."
So, to sum up: this good book becomes great by combining it with other books/courses/professors/etc that will interject materials issues into this books discussion of the mechanical issues.

Incredible content, poor binder quality

I have not had a chance to really delve into the content. But paging through the book, I am very excited to go deeper. The book seems to touch on almost all mfg processes, even addressing material behavior, metallurgy, tribology, and some other wide ranging subjects that affect manufacturing.

That being said, I bought this book "new" from Amazon and it has several gouges on the front and back cover. Also the back cover hinge looks like someone took a knife to it so that there's only the inside glued paper that's holding the hard cardboard onto the book. Never seen anything like this from Amazon.

Beautifully illustrated...

Almost every page contains a full page, beautiful color reproduction. Of course, Matisse is the most heavily represented
of the group, but other fauves aren't given short shrift. Derain, Marquet, Dufy and others are given sufficient coverage.
The author provides a brief and readable history of the movement. All in all, it's an excellent introduction to fauvism.

Great reading but hard on the eyes

I had an earlier edition of this book and liked it so much I ordered a new one for a relative. Unfortunately, the publisher has shrunk the size and the print is far too small. If you can read it, it's great. But if you can't stand the strain of tiny print, I'm afraid you'll have a hard time with this edition.

It contains concise, excellently written biographies of all the major personalities featured in the New Testament as well as most of the obscure ones. The contents have been thoroughly researched and meticulously compiled. I loved it and cannot wait to purchase Who's who in the Old Testament.

About the Author

Gabriel García Márquez was born in 1927 in the town of Aracataca, Columbia.Latin America's preeminent man of letters, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1982. García Márquez began his writing career as a journalist and is the author of numerous other works of fiction and nonfiction, including the novels The Autumn of the Patriarch and Love in the Time of Cholera, and the autobiography Living to Tell the Tale. There has been resounding acclaim for his life's work since he passed away in April 2014.

A Masterpiece

When Gabriel Garcia Marquez died I heard a podcast discussing his work and the critic in the podcast chose Autumn Of The Patriarch (1975) as the most representative of his writing. I was intrigued since it is one of the novels that I hadn't read yet, so I decided that would be the next Marquez novel I would read. it reflects all the great lyricism of other novels such as One Hundred Years of Solitude and Love In The Time Of Cholera. It also catalogs the barbarity of the military dictatorships that once dominated South America and most of Latin America. The book is divided into six sections about the eternal dictator and his cruel reign as well as the discovery of his so-called dead corpse at the onset of each section. The sentences and paragraphs are long, flowing, and lyrical. It is truly one of his masterpieces of modern fiction.

A great read if you stick with it

I have been a big fan of Mr. Marquez for many years now, and have read at least four of his other books. This one intrigued me when I read about it, since it is reputed to have been his first.

I found the first fifty or so pages difficult to get into because, typical of Marquez, he tends to write in run on sentences, no paragraphs, and differing persons. Stick with it, however, and the book will captivate you. For anyone familiar with one or more of the dictatorships typical of South America, either past or present, you will become enthralled with his eye for detail. A great read, and an object lesson for would be dictators.

That this is a tough read is an understatement. But worth the effort. The story is so relevant: a warning never to forget, as those who hear the word of God hustle politics, believing their own shtick. Marquez's imagination is so astounding it makes me fearful that Western civilization died a long time ago. In the best of my dreams I can only sustain for five seconds what Marquez holds together for his entire novel.

Tilley's 5 -Minute Veterinary Consult book has been an extremely valuable asset to my library. When the CD-Rom came out, it was even more useful in that immediate and current information can be retrieved much faster than picking up a book. It is faster since topics related to a case can be searched for and reviewed with a touch of your mouse. This information can be quickly printed and given to clients to further understand their pets diagnosed condition. This printed information alone is priceless! A client that has something in hand and can follow and confirm their veterinarian's diagnosis and treatment, helps establish the trust a client needs to have in their pets doctor.
I reach for my 5- Minute Vet Consult CD-rom more than any other resource in my library. It is very accurate and has a surprising amount of detail to assist in the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of each topic. The drug search is a very helpful formulary for those quick reference needs. The most recent CD has a good number of cytology and radiographic images attached to the topics. These can be enlarged to see more closely the great detail.
In my opinion the 5-Minute Veterinary Consult CD-Rom was one of the best reference investments for my practice. It is definitely the most utilized reference I have. Time is money and this has saved me many steps and thus time and money. Every practice needs this reference without doubt!

Great user-friendly reference for vet students

This book is great when you just need the down and dirty on a disease, and don't want to wade through a 50-page description in the heavy-duty references. It was also very useful during second-year, when you're just trying your hand at figuring out the diseases, and need a little confirmation of your diagnosis and treatment plans. Or, when you're totally clueless and need help get started in the right direction. Fair warning, faculty usually won't accept it as 'reference' especially if you're trying to argue a point, but during a recent open-book final, I brought mine in anyway and there was practically a mob of other students rushing over to check out one thing or another.

My vet suggested me getting this book (I have worked for him for 6 years) and I am glad I did! It has 4 different sections in it, "Presenting Problems and Physical Findings", "Diagnostic-Laboratory Tests", "Diagnostics-Electrocardiography", and "Diseases and Clinical Syndromes". Each section has detailed information on each finding, usually two pages per each problem, which covers the Basics (definition, signalment, causes and risk factors), Diagnosis, Treatment, Medications, Follow-up and a Miscellaneous. There is plenty of information in the Appendix section of the book as well. Including a Formulary, Conversion Tables and more! I would highly recommend it to vets, students and vet techs.

Disappointing. Lazy. Incomplete.

I was really looking forward to getting this book. Navigating the admission requirements for veterinary schools has been difficult. Unlike other professional programs, each veterinary school has different requirements. For some schools this just means additional courses must be taken. For others it may mean that specific courses must have specific prerequisites in order to satisfy the school's requirements or must be taken at a 4 year university as opposed to a community college. Sadly, this guide does not always notify the user of these vital subtleties.

For example, the guide only notes 3 things for the University of Illinois under "Prerequisites for Admission." These include 8 hours of biological science, 16 hours of chemical science, and 8 hours of physics. Head to U of I's website and you see that biochemistry is a required course and the only qualifying course is one that has organic chemistry as a prerequisite. A slew of profiles for other schools also fail to note this. Not all undergraduate universities (including mine) offer biochemistry with an organic prerequisite. Someone relying on this guide could be forced to retake biochemistry in order to fulfill this requirement because they simply did not know about it.

The book is also completely inconsistent with its break down of required courses. For example, the guide lists out each course requirement completely for some schools, noting that some must be taken at 4 year universities etc. while others simply direct you to the school's website! Really? What was the purpose of purchasing a book on veterinary school requirements if you are just going to direct me to the school's website?!

Again, some schools list some information on previous entering classes including average GPA, science GPA, and GRE scores while others list nothing. It is quite frustrating and unhelpful.

Sadly, this book has proven to be a huge disappointment. Until the authors step up their game or a competing publication comes around I strongly suggest sticking to the old way of doing things.

I'm finishing up my bachelors degree and had no idea about any schools for a DVM. Getting this book has been a lifesaver. It has every school in the country plus some and tells you exactly what is required for applying to those schools. It's a great book for people seriously looking into veterinary school. Glad I found it.

About the Author
Norm Supancheck was born in 1942 and grew up in Long Beach, California. He’s spent his life devoted to serving God and helping people. An ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles since 1968, Father Norm’s current assignment is chaplain at Alemany High School in Mission Hill, California, a position he has held since 2002. Fr. Norm leads various marriage enrichment programs through the Catholic Church including Retrouvaille, Marriage Encounter, and Engaged Encounter. He works with many youth training programs and is actively involved in a variety of community service organizations. Fluent in Spanish, Fr. Norm celebrates Mass in Spanish up to five times a month on El Sembrador TV Station (ESNE), which is broadcast worldwide. He holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from St. John Seminary and a master’s degree in applied theology from Graduate Theological Union.

Marcus Brotherton is a journalist and professional writer known internationally for his books and literary collaborations with high-profile public figures, humanitarians, inspirational leaders, and military personnel. He has authored or coauthored more than 25 books, including the acclaimed Feast For Thieves, the much-loved Finding Martha’s Place, and We Who Are Alive and Remain, a New York Times bestseller.

Wonderful book! This priest understands what it is like to be married...

This is a wonderful book. This is a love story that begins with a young couple in love who make the decision not to get married. Father Norm shares in his book how their love continued throughout the remainder of their lives even though the love they shared was expressed differently than they had first imagined.

If you ever wondered how a priest can understand the marital relationship, this book is for you. I highly recommend it.

This is such a great book! I've known Father Norm for a few years and went on some of his retreats as a young adult. He is such an amazing man of faith, and encouragement. This book really shows you what real love is all about. I recommend this book to anyone who is searching for true love, who is looking for a reminder of that love, or who wants to know what it looks like.

Get it, read it, and experience God's love in this story. Just amazing!

When Love Calls is a delightful story not only of about love and spirituality, but also a historical overview of Los Angeles, the impact of his ministry through the years and around the world. Whether you know Father Norm or not, it is an honest and well written memoir that captures the reader early on. Father Norm does not shy away from sensitive events that were happening in the world, within the Church and of course, within himself. The book is an easy read and age appropriate for adults as well as teens.

CHASE Jr. is the Chief Industry Consultant in SAS's Manufacturing & Supply Chain Global Practice, where he is the principal architect and strategist for delivering demand planning and forecasting solutions to improve SAS customers' supply chain efficiencies. This book is a gem!

This is an excellent book on applied demand forecasting. As such, I am using it as a textbook in my MBA-level forecasting class. I was looking for a book that would be appropriate for my students as future managers, decision-makers and forecast analysts. There are many excellent theoretical treatments of forecasting and time series analysis. (I know because my doctoral dissertation was on forecasting.) However, these books focus solely on the statistics/econometrics and ignore important practical considerations in demand forecasting. These books would be not appropriate for my students. Similarly, there are a lot of practically-oriented forecasting books with good insights and sound advice. (I know because I have several years of industry experience.) However, many of these books lack (or assume that you already know) the basics of forecasting. So, these books would not be appropriate for my students, either. But when I came across “Demand-Driven Forecasting”, I knew it was a gem! This book gives you a solid understanding of how demand forecasting is done in practice, illustrates common problems forecasters face and explains the politics behind forecasting. Given this background, the statistical material presented in this book make so much more sense that it would otherwise. I recommend this book to any forecasting practitioner. In my opinion, this is the best introduction for a novice forecaster. But a more experienced forecaster would also find many valuable improvement ideas in this book.

Practical and Comprehensive

I found the second edition of this book to be both practical and comprehensive. It discusses today's growing, numerous forecasting challenges and offers comprehensive insights into how to become "demand-driven" using excellent easy-to-understand examples. There are many real data examples and several that seem to be based on the author’s experience. There is emphasis on using graphical methods and plots to understand the analysis and statistical output. The author’s perspective is that demand forecasting is much more than just fitting models to historical demand data. Although explaining and understanding the past history of demand is important, it is not always adequate for improving accurately. I agree that combining data, analytics, and domain knowledge is the only formula for successful demand forecasting. The book includes the most recent developments in demand-driven forecasting process implementation.

Great book. Most forecasting books take a very statistics and mathematics heavy approach. Mr. Chase creates the perfect balance of explaining just enough math behind forecasting, as well as, shows how forecasting is applied in the real world with real life examples. As the data driven business world becomes the norm, understanding how predictive analytics is applied is becoming more valuable than the theory of analyzing data.
